By 2023, minorities will comprise more than half of the country\u2019s children. The majority of health care experts have identified cultural diversity as a challenge that may compromise patient care. Cultural incompetence could lead to inappropriate care, cultural biases, stereotypes, prejudice, ethnocentricity, and discrimination (Dean, 2005). Purpose: The purpose of this quantitative study is: 1) to investigate the effect of high fidelity cultural simulation as a pedagogical method on the development of cultural competence among baccalaureate nursing students; 2) to identify the relationships among the cultural competence constructs of cultural awareness, knowledge, skills, encounter and desire; and 3) to evaluate the effectiveness of high-fidelity simulation on the cultural competence development of nursing students. Theoretical Framework: Campinha-Bacote\u2019s cultural development framework and model provided theoretical guidance for this study. Methods: A quasi-experimental one group pre-test/post-test research design was employed in this study to find the effect of high-fidelity cultural simulation on the development of cultural competence among baccalaureate nursing students. Conclusion: Study results contributed to the understanding of how cultural competence develops in baccalaureate nursing students. Moreover, an innovative pedagogical strategy of high-fidelity cultural simulation demonstrated a significant effect on cultural competence development in nursing students. Nurses have a great responsibility to be culturally sensitive and proactive in learning about diverse cultural groups. Future studies should be built on the findings of this research study to improve cultural competence among health care professionals by the utilization of high-fidelity cultural simulation in nursing curricula and inter-professional education to reduce health care disparities and inequalities in care of diverse populations." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Classification" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "RT86.5 .M35 2016" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publication Date" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "2016" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Genre" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Academic theses" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Holding Location" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University Archives and Special Collections" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Resource Identifier" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "RT86.5 .M35 2016 _MaltsevaTatayana" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Language" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "English" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Permanent Link" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "http://sobekcmsrv.barrynet.barry.edu/AA00001931/00001" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Creator" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Maltseva, Tatayana" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Note" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Thesis (Ph.D.)--Barry University, 2016.", "Includes bibliographical references (leaves 195-211)." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Physical Description" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "xix, 251 leaves ; 28 cm" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publisher" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Place of Publication" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Miami, Fla." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Type" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Book" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Rights Management" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Copyright Tatayana Maltseva.
