Participants included 12 students who were randomly selected and divided into two groups. The groups were assigned to 1 of 2 treatments: direct vocabulary instruction through discussion or vocabulary\u2019 instruction through literature. Instruction was given over a six-week period of time. The students were given a pre-test before each lesson and a post-test after each lesson was taught. The post-test was administered on the fifth day after each lesson was taught.
