With these democratic ideals, members of such a society should be able to achieve ultimate happiness in all of life\u2019s endeavors. Once this has been achieved, such persons are said to have reached the American Dream. However, American democracy is in actuality defeated by the social institution of capitalism. Contradictory to democracy, capitalism enforces adherence to established sets of rules and regulations. It supports and rewards those who successfully fit the mold of society\u2019s culture. Capitalism insists upon institutionalization of all facets of life in order to ensure utmost efficiency. Conformity to the ideals of individualism and bureaucratization are essential for success.
