The participants in this study are the elected school board members of the Florida School District that scored the highest on Florida\u2019s Comprehensive Assessment Tests (FCAT) and set new state academic performance records for the 2004-2005 school year. In exploring the school board members\u2019 perceptions, the following research questions guided my study: (1) How do school board members perceive their governance process raises students\u2019 academic performance? (2) What governance conditions are necessary to raise students\u2019 academic performance? Method: A single qualitative case study was used to understand and describe the school board members\u2019 perceptions of the phenomenon of school board governance and students\u2019 performance. The five elected school board members were purposefully selected for their ability to provide rich information to the study of this phenomenon. The data was collected through in-depth interviews, field notes, and an observation of one of their school board meetings. The data was analyzed and synthesized to find the four themes that contributed to this body of knowledge. Major Findings : The school board members perceived their governance process raised students\u2019 performance. The four emerging and recurrent themes that emerged from the analysis and synthesis of the data were: leadership, community relations, performance outcomes, and governance. Collectively, the findings addressed my research questions." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Classification" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "L136.L48 2006" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publication Date" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "2006" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Genre" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Academic theses" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Holding Location" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University Archives and Special Collections" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Resource Identifier" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "L136.L48 2006_LevineMark" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Language" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "English" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Permanent Link" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "http://sobekcmsrv.barrynet.barry.edu/AA00001330/00001" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Creator" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Levine, Mark H." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Note" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Thesis (Ph.D.)--Barry University, 2006.", "Includes bibliographical references (leaves 84-92)." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Physical Description" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "xi, 98 leaves : ill. ; 28 cm" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Publisher" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Barry University" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Place of Publication" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Miami, Fla." ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Type" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Book" ] } }, { "label": { "en": [ "Rights Management" ] }, "value": { "none": [ "Copyright Mark H.
